Dense Pancakes. Too much egg, however, will make the pancake dense and custard-like; not enough will make it drier and more biscuit-like. Photo: Alex Lau Great recipe for Dense Pancakes. I really wanted pancakes, but didn't have any baking powder.
Ingredients of Dense Pancakes
- Prepare 1 cup of flour.
- Prepare 4 tsp of sugar.
- Prepare 1 tsp of vanilla extract.
- You need 1 of egg.
- It's 3/4 cup of milk.
- You need 1/4 tsp of salt.
Quick reminder on flipping here: Medium-hot pan (cast iron is best), a little oil or butter, spoonful of batter goes in, then you wait for small bubbles to appear around the pancake's edges, signifying doneness—don't flip before that. I was really looking forward to these pancakes, I questioned the amount of baking powder, but decided to follow the recipe to a T. The batter in itself was so thick, thicker than cake batter, but they looked so so good on the griddle and thought I hit a homerun. These are the BEST pancakes I have ever made!
